Katy: What does "blue" mean to you? How would you define it? How does it relate to Cape Cod?
Caitlin: “Blue” refers to anything having to do with the oceans surrounding us. To me, that means “blue” refers to just about everything on Cape Cod. Everything on the Cape is somehow affected by the bodies of water surrounding it. From seafood restaurants to tourists at the beaches, everything here revolves around the “blue”. As someone who grew up on a cranberry bog, less than a mile from the beach, it’s impossible to see how the Cape would be the Cape without the “blue”
Meet Caitlin Ward-Pryor, a 2025-26 intern!
Meet Caitlin Ward-Prior, a Barnstable High School Senior interning at the Cape Cod Blue Economy Foundation from September 2025 through May 2026.
Katy: How did you first hear about the Cape Cod Blue Economy Foundation?
Caitlin: I first heard about the Cape Cod Blue Economy Foundation at a business breakfast I helped run through DECA. There, I met you and learned all about what you do at the chamber and how my interest in economics could be a great fit to do an internship there.
Katy: What are you looking forward to studying at college? Does it relate to the blue economy or the work you're doing through this internship?
Caitlin: I am looking forward to studying economics, specifically international economics in college. This definitely relates to the work I’m doing through this internship by exposing me to real world assignments using data from local businesses. In particular, the project that we’re working on now explores the growth and sustainability of our own economy on Cape Cod which has been really interesting to me.
Katy: Since starting your internship at the Blue Economy Foundation, what have you learned/discovered?
Caitlin: Interning here has been such an interesting experience. Every day I learn something new and am always applying this knowledge in new ways. Being able to do real world tasks has helped me to understand economics in a totally different way than any of my school classes could. I’ve discovered that no matter how many textbook courses you take, it’s impossible to replicate the learning experience you gain from actually doing real-world tasks.
Katy: What is something about Cape Cod you think you will miss the most when you head off to college?
Caitlin: Something about Cape Cod I will miss a lot is the connections because of how small the Cape is. Everyone on the Cape is connected somehow. No matter where you are or who you meet it’s like there is an invisible string linking everyone together.

Katy: Is there anything else you'd like people to know about you?
Caitlin: One thing about me is that I have an interest for everything. I’m always open to trying new things no matter what it is. So this opportunity is so exciting for me, and I can’t wait to see everything I’ll get to explore and learn during my year as an intern here!
